Shona White becomes Patron of the Playhouse Theatre

SHONA WHITE ANNOUNCED AS PATRON OF LONDON’S PLAYHOUSE THEATRE Scottish actress, singer and musical theatre star Shona White has accepted an invitation to become Patron of The Playhouse Theatre in London’s West End. Shona White said “I am thrilled to become Patron of such an historic venue which holds a special place in my heart. I am looking forward to supporting The Playhouse as it goes from strength to strength”. ABOUT SHONA

Biography

A Scottish native, Shona trained at The Royal Academy of Music in London at which she is now an Associate Artist. During her time at the Academy she won the coveted Ronald White Prize for Acting Through Song. An advocate for new writing, Shona has just performed at Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Other Palace, celebrating new musical theatre as part of this year’s From Page to Stage Festival produced by Aria Entertainment. Shona recently starred as Donna in Mamma Mia! at the Novello Theatre where she made history as the first actress to play both the mother and the daughter in the smash-hit musical, having played Sophie 14 years earlier.

As a well-established leading lady, Shona has had the privilege of playing some of the most sought after, iconic roles in musical theatre such as Elphaba in Wicked at the Apollo Victoria, Éponine and Cosette in Les Misérables and Florence Vassy in the Award Winning UK Tour of Chess; the actor-musician show directed by Craig Revel Horwood received great critical acclaim and went on to transfer to Toronto, Canada. Other theatre includes: Anita in West Side Story, Rita in All The Fun Of The Fair, Betty in Shout!, Miss Gordon in Merrily We Roll Along, Leda Cotton in I Capture the Castle and Lorna in The Route to Happiness. In recognition of her contribution to theatre Shona has recently been made Patron of London’s Playhouse Theatre where she performed as Magenta/ Usherette in The Rocky Horror Show.

Shona’s concert work includes the musical celebration Manhattan Nights in which she played homage to her real life idol, Barbra Streisand. She has performed with Sir Elton John at The Royal Albert Hall, featured as a guest artist in a special concert edition of Friday Night Is Music Night for BBC Radio 2 and taken centre stage at The SSE Arena, Wembley in her role of Ambassador for Adoption UK. With a passion for live music in an intimate setting Shona can often be found performing at some of London’s most famous Cabaret venues. She has previously entertained audiences at The Pheasantry in Chelsea, Pizza on the Park in Knightsbridge, Lauderdale House in Highgate and both The Hippodrome Casino and Above the Arts in the heart of London’s West End.

Television appearances include: Dancing in the Streets (BBC), Sing With A Star (ITV), Pebble Mill (BBC), The Royal Variety Performance (BBC) and a documentary entitled Broadway Babies for BBC Wales which featured Shona as a finalist in the First Voice of Musical Theatre competition.

Shona’s recording works include: Bushtales, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy movie soundtrack, Meadowlark for the Bolshoi Ballet, Summer Always Comes for Don Black and the original cast recordings of Zipp!, Manhattan Nights, All The Fun Of The Fair and Charles Miller’s When Midnight Strikes.
